Barns Ness Lighthouse
Barns Ness Lighthouse is an imposing is a 37m (121-foot) white tower located on a headland 5 km from Dunbar. A great place for walking surrounded by an extensive dune grasslands and scenic views. Constructed by engineer David A Stevenson (cousin to the writer Robert Louis Stevenson) between 1899 and 1901. Taking approximately 2.5 years to construct, it was illuminated in October 1901 and deactivated in October 2005.
A great place to walk along the sea edge and grass dunes. Whitesands Bay is close by, and is a good place to look for fossil (please don’t hammer or dig out any you find – Scottish Fossil Code).
