John Muir Country Park
Located on a beautiful stretch of coastline it is a spectacular area of woodland, grassland and East Lothian coastline near Dunbar sweeping from the Dunbar Castle Ruins in Dunbar, to the Peffer Burn six kilometres to the north. Its a wonderful place for all the family walking, playing, visiting the beach and watching wildlife. It supports a wide range of habitats, birds and over 400 species of plants.
Named after John Muir, the explorer, naturalist and conservationist. His pioneering conservation work and naturalist publications led to him being known as America’s founder of National Parks. Born in Dunbar in 1838, he lived in Dunbar until the age of 11, when the family immigrated to Wisconsin the United States.
